Message From the Principal Dear Parents, A levels at the British International School of Al Khobar As you are all aware the GCSE programme was launched a year ago and this year, our first cohort of students will be taking their GCSE examinations.   From September 2010, BISAK will be offering a range of A-Levels for the first time. The year 12 (6th Form) pupils will start the course following the EDEXCEL AS specification and will move onto the A2 specification in year 13 to qualify for a full A-Level certificate. This will be another milestone for BISAK enabling pupils to undertake post 16 education in The Kingdom. This provides students with the necessary qualifications to apply for University entrance across the world.  For many students who have already studied GCSE’s the move from Year 11 into Year 12 to study GCE’s is a logical and sensible progression. What are GCEs • GCE (General Certificate of Education) qualifications are also known as A levels, which stands for Advanced level. • They are usually taken by 16 to 19 year-olds, but they can be taken by students at any age. • A full GCE (A level) is usually taken over two years but may be taken over one year. · They are the main entry requirements for progression to higher education, and are usually required for employment. Indeed the facilities at BISAK have been upgraded to prepare for the introduction of A levels. The school has added new classrooms, ICT facilities, new Science facilities, a school canteen, and is in the process of improving its learning resource area. The sixth form will have their own common room and indeed will be taught by teachers who have many years of A level experience.  For any further information, do contact either the Head of Secondary or myself. Regards Dr. Tassos Anastasiades Principal   Welcome to BISAK from the Principal Dr. Tassos Anastasiades Since 1978 when BISAK first started off in a few villas it has grown into a large, internationally renowned, non-profit makingschool with 630 students from around forty five nations. These children and young people, from three to sixteen years of age, benefit from the dedication and hard work of our teachers and support staff who work together to create the most effective learning environment for our children. Our students are recognised through excellence in numerous activities - creative, poetry, public speaking, sporting - the list is endless. The diverse extra- curricular programme and Duke of Edinburgh Award Scheme offers our students many areas of personal development as well as academic. In addition the introduction of GCSE leading to A Level, and the recognition of BISAK as a recognised EDEXCEL examination centre has been an historic step forward for BISAK. Our new career advice provision, personal and social education programme and planning for work experience will help our students prepare for this very important phase of their education.  As Principal it is my passion to inspire students in making plans that will help them achieve their goals and dreams. We all have a responsibility to help them find their own passion and work towards it. We at BISAK will encourage all students to be prepared to put in the work to reach where they want to be.  We will motivate them to find the strength to ignore those who would see them fail and never allow others to belittle their dreams and ambitions.  We will encourage them never to compromise until they have done everything they can to reach their dream.
