A-LEVEL: Why study art?
The profession of artist was the first ever in the history of mankind: in the Paleolithic era cave paintings were made by individuals capable, who were relieved of some hunting; they provided the community a means of seeing their beliefs, and even created “schools”. The cultivation of beliefs led to the appearance of other professions and man establishing himself on the land as a farmer as his relationship with the world developed. Art, thus, is found in the true foundations of civilisation. You may tell that to anyone who asks why be an artist!
A-Level art is for anyone who wants to take their studies to an advanced and very interesting level, in order to become a professional in the field of fine art, or applied art such as illustration, or just cultivate their sensibilities and understanding of the world around and appreciate all of our culture!
A-Level students study advanced techniques in making art in the fields of drawing, painting, printing and three-dimensional art, learning from the examples of artists throughout history. They work to create personal art, and also study artworks in the context of history and society.
