Who are we?

Steve Dyer – Secondary School Parent Representative for the Board of Governors

I have worked for Schlumberger for 18 years. My job has taken my family and I to many different parts of the world. We moved to Al Khobar in 2008, have a son in year 7 and a daughter starting reception next year. I look forward to meeting as many of you as possible during the current school year.

Siobhan Hanna – Primary School Parent Representative for the Board of Governors

My name is Mrs. Siobhan Hanna, and have been an expatriate working and living in the Middle East for over 11 years. With a background in Chemical Engineering, I have worked in international consultancy firms since 1994. I have been resident in Al Khobar for nearly four years and have two children attending BISAK since 2006.

Our Responsibilities

• Ensure that parents views and needs are directly communicated to the Board
• Effective Communication of Board Decisions to all parents
• Facilitate Effective Parent Involvement in BISAK though the APF (PTA)
• Direct Communication link for parents regarding school/education matters

Meeting / Coffee Morning for Prospective Year Group Parent Reps

Dear Parents,
As notified in last week's letter and newsletter, we will be holding a meeting for all parents interested in acting as year group Parent Representatives as follows:

Venue: Hamilton Hall
Date: Tuesday, 19th January
Time:  08:30 to 10:00
Coffees and teas provided

Agenda:

1. General welcome and opportunity to meet prospective parents and board parent reps.
2. Identification and discussion of the year group parent rep role and how to communicate to and from the Board, School Leadership and Management Teams
3. Identification of interested parents for each year group (and/or class)
4. Setting of future meeting dates - we would expect at least 1 meeting per term to ensure continuity between parents and Board
5. Discussion of current or ongoing concerns - for instance those tabled during November's AGM

News of the Week: 11th November 2009

• Thank you. We had a good response from the Parent survey, over 133 parents representing 35% of school children. A summary of the results will be reported on this page and through regular school communication methods as soon as possible. It would be great if we could improve this level of response to 50% though next time!!
• APF – Chairman Position – we have received 2 candidates interested already, so please send in your CV’s for this important role if you are interested. We need your help in further enhancing the school – parent interaction on many areas within the school, education, facilities, activities etc.
• Year Group Parents – we have had a few applications for Year Group Parents – but we need more volunteers for all years in the school – so please apply!
• Meet other mums and parents from school at the Coffee Morning on Sunday 15th November @ 09:00 – 11:00 hours – hope to see you there.
• Annual General Meeting – voice your opinion – on 24th November 8:00pm.
