Recruitment Admissions BNews SchoolYear

Welcome to the Science Department

Here at the British International School of Al Khobar, we are fortunate to have two working laboratories for use by KS3 and KS4.

At present there are two science teachers, Phil Danbury and Rob Dickens (head of department) and one technician Su Dickens.  All are highly qualified and between them have over 30 years of science teaching experience. As we now offer GSCE and GCE the number of science teachers is likely to increase from September 2010.

On this site there is a plethora of useful information to help you achieve your full potential as a scientist. Use the links below to find out what we have to offer. If you have any suggestions as to what should be added to the science pages then let us know. Use the links below to navigate around the site. Biology chemistry and physics pages will shortly be available and will include both GCSE and AS/A level material.

Electrifying stuff!

The internet is a wonderful resource for everyone, but a big problem is where to start when looking for information. On this page we have tried to provide a selection of 'starting points' for teachers and students

Comments

GCSE Revision Help, BBC 'bitesize'.

A very good resources for all subjects, not just science.

S-cool.

Revision guides and lots of hints and tips on how to revise effectively. Covers AS/A level and GCSE sciences plus other subjects.

Student Central

Help with your coursework, including some sample essays and 'write-ups'. You could help other students by submitting your essays.

Revise.it.

Revision guides and tests for GCSE and A-level. The 'essay lab' has example pieces of coursework (not all of them good) with useful comments from teachers and students.

Creative Chemistry

Lots of useful things for both teachers and students. Advice on coursework, a coursework 'tune-up' garage, revision guides, work sheets plus much more. GCSE and AS/A level.

Association for Science Education.

Lots of resources for science teachers and students. Many useful links and information. There is 'members only' area, but maybe you know someone who is a member - one your science teachers perhaps?

Insultingly Stupid Movie Physics

Explains why the movie makers do not understand physics, with lots of examples and calculations. An example being if you were shot you would not be thrown backwards through a shop window. Lots of other examples both general and from specific films.

The world of colour

Interactive colour mixing, actually works better than using filters and ray boxes. Useful for year 9 and GCSE physics.

Grossology

The science of really gross things, like vomit! For anyone with an interest in the gross and disgusting.

BBC - Science & Nature

Lots of information about the human mind and body, includes several interactive parts such as putting human bones and organs in the right places. Lots of interesting 'stuff'.

Bad Astronomy Home Page

See how the media, and people who should know better, get it wrong - far too often.

The Nobel Prizes.

Up to date information and archives about 'The Prize', prize-winners and their work. There is also an opportunity for scientifically minded students to take part in a competition.

Commercial Illustration, Flash Animation

Lots of interesting animations but for all you chemists the best one is the 'Elements Song' with accompanying illustrations. You could also join in the 'infinite cat' project.

The power to bend water!

Serious stuff this static!

Well, maybe not that serious!

Bad hair day? Or static electricity?
